Moving Politics Forward

Hello, folks: we’re the Moving Politics Forward team, and we’d like to share with you the vision that drives all of our work.

On one hand, we’re pretty sick of the American political system. We believe it’s run by the elites for the elites, with underhand dealings and clandestine motives defining policy more than the needs and rights of the average American citizen.

It appears that with the right contacts and enough money, anyone with any motive can buy their way to the top of the tree by lying and fearmongering to manipulate public opinion. They can exploit their increased power by selling favors and getting into the bed with financial elites who want to peddle their policies and keep things as they are, even if it involves jeopardizing the health of our citizens and the viability of America as a world power

The epitome of this disease is ex-president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. If ever there was a perfect sign that the political system in this country is fundamentally broken, he is it. He is a chauvinistic, xenophobic, sexist, privileged, power-driven convict and capitalist poster boy that holds the presidency for one person and one person only: himself. There is something terribly broken in our system if this man can make it to the top.

In many ways, this project came about as a direct result of his presidency and the deep brokenness it exposed.

Yet at the same time, we recognize that a similar status quo exists in most countries, even those we consider to be the most advanced, and that it’ll take time and much effort to change. We’re also encouraged by the progress that this country is making in a number of different areas, from technology to inclusion to science to health. America is at the forefront in many areas, but our political system drags us down and makes us a mockery of the world.

Our vision doesn’t include tearing down the present order and starting over, nor do we believe it’s necessary: change is wired into all of life, and politics is continually evolving and morphing as we do. We trust that. We also realize that society builds on top of itself: the future necessarily includes the past. Likewise, future political systems will include all previous ones. We want to build and elaborate, not destroy.

We also know that politics tends Left and Liberal over time: today’s liberals are tomorrow’s conservatives; yesterday’s conservatives have gone the way of the dodo bird. This movement encourages us to push for a political system that is run for ordinary citizens, not elites.

At dwb4congress we share our vision for a new political system based on policies that make sense and that redistributes power to the competent and the benevolent among us. If policy is done consciously, with the people in mind, with a no-harm approach, we’ll all benefit.
